Overview
Galgali, also known as the Violence Fiend, is one of the most intriguing characters in Chainsaw Man.
Despite his terrifying name, Galgali is one of the most kind-hearted and rational fiends in Public Safety — a paradox that adds depth to Tatsuki Fujimoto’s world.
Profile
| Attribute | Detail |
|---|---|
| Affiliation | Public Safety Devil Hunters (Division 4) |
| Identity | Fiend possessed by the Violence Devil |
| Height | 178 cm |
| Pronoun | “Ore” (俺) |
| Voice Actor (CV) | Yuya Uchida (内田夕夜) |
Appearance
Galgali wears a plague doctor–style gas mask that constantly releases a toxic mist.
The upper half resembles military gear, while the lower half evokes a post-apocalyptic aesthetic.
According to Kishibe, the mask is designed to suppress his immense power, and it should never be removed.
His real face remains unseen for most of the series — until one unforgettable moment.
Personality — A Gentle Fiend with a Human Heart

Despite being possessed by the Violence Devil, Galgali is surprisingly calm, kind, and empathetic.
He claims much of his human brain remains intact, explaining his rational and gentle behavior.
He isn’t reckless like most fiends — he knows when to fight and when to retreat.
He even shows compassion toward others, such as buying ice cream for his partner Kobeni Higashiyama.
Galgali also retains fragments of his past life:
- He remembers a diner he once loved.
- He recalls the school he attended.
- He never forgot the time Makima saved him.
This lingering humanity makes Galgali one of the most tragic yet pure-hearted characters in Chainsaw Man.

Combat Ability — The Power He Keeps Hidden
Even with his mask suppressing his strength, Galgali’s combat power is exceptional.
While most devils weaken after becoming fiends, he remains incredibly strong — to the point where Kishibe warns others never to remove his mask.
He specializes in close-range combat, relying on his physical prowess.
During fights, his legs can enlarge and strengthen, allowing him to deliver devastating kicks — a result of raw physical enhancement rather than a supernatural ability.
The Theory: Is the Violence Fiend Actually Hirokazu Arai?
Among Chainsaw Man fans, a popular theory suggests that the Violence Fiend’s human body once belonged to Hirokazu Arai, the Devil Hunter who sacrificed himself to save Kobeni.
This theory spread because of the physical and behavioral similarities between Arai and Galgali.
Evidence Supporting the Theory:
- Their hairstyles and body proportions are strikingly similar.
- Both have calm, protective personalities and care deeply for Kobeni.
While there is no official confirmation from Fujimoto, the timeline fits — Arai’s death occurs shortly before the Violence Fiend’s introduction.
It’s possible the mask hides his identity to conceal this truth.

The Battle Against the Darkness Devil

The most tragic moment in Galgali’s story occurs during the Hell arc, when Santa Claus summons the Darkness Devil.
Every Public Safety member is dragged into Hell, facing a force far beyond comprehension.
Amid the chaos, Galgali makes a final stand.
“Kobeni-chan… take off my mask and hide…”
— His last words to protect his partner.
When the mask is removed, Galgali’s true form is revealed — a four-eyed, muscular being radiating pure power.
He channels all his strength into one final kick, but even his might cannot harm the Darkness Devil.
Moments later, his body is pierced by a sword and riddled with holes.
Among all the hunters present, only Galgali and Makima forced the Darkness Devil to use its special bell-blade weapon, proving his extraordinary power and resolve.

In Chapter 83, Makima reveals eight followers (subordinates) of Chainsaw Man, calling them Kenzoku (眷属) — divine servants.
She names them:
“Seraphim, Beam, Galgali, Dominion, Virtue, Power, Princi, Angel.”
Beam (Shark Fiend) — Profile, Abilities, and Loyalty to Chainsaw Man
Here, the Violence Fiend’s true name “Galgali” is revealed, placing him among the celestial ranks.
These eight beings appear to reference the hierarchy of angels from Christian theology.
The name Galgali is likely derived from Throne Angel Galgalin, a figure symbolizing divine will and protection.
Makima explains that they “fought to protect you, Chainsaw Man,” revealing that Galgali’s true mission was to protect Denji, the vessel of Chainsaw Man’s heart.
His self-sacrifice against the Darkness Devil thus fulfills that divine duty.

Will Galgali Return in Part 2?
Though Galgali died in Part 1, his existence wasn’t erased — suggesting the potential for his return.
As one of Chainsaw Man’s Kenzoku, he could reappear alongside the other seven servants when Denji faces his ultimate crisis.
Many fans hope to see Galgali again — not as a weapon of destruction, but as a symbol of loyalty and compassion, watching over Denji from the shadows.
